About

Andrew Vance, a Minneapolis based lighting designer, has designed over 100 productions over the last two decades.  Originally from a small town in rural Wisconsin, he grew up without much influence from the arts.  In high school, he found a passion for theatre, and specifically lighting, working on the school’s semi-annual theatre productions. In his senior year, the drama instructor tasked him with designing lights and scenery for the spring production of “The Miracle Worker,” and a career was born. Choosing arts over science, he pursued a BFA in Lighting Design from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. While there, he worked backstage as well as designing lights and scenery for many shows.

Andrew has spent most of the last twenty years being a Lighting Supervisor in regional theatre at theatres like Actors Theatre of Louisville, Trinity Rep, the Alley Theatre, and the Geffen Playhouse. This has given him experience on both sides of the tech table, as well as work within budgets and time constraints to realize the lighting aspects of the production. He has designed in all manner of theatres, from 99-seat black boxes to large scale venues, designing everything from dance and classical ballet to modern theatre. He adapts his style to suit the needs of each particular production.

In his free time, Andrew enjoys spending time with his wife and pets, traveling, reading, assembling Lego, and enjoying the heck out of life.
