Assistant Lighting Design

As an associate/assistant on nearly 70 productions since 2000, I bring a wide assortment of skills to the table. Being a Lighting Supervisor in regional theatres for so long, I have a unique insight into both the artistic and technical side of things. I enjoy being able to solve problems and work towards making the production the best it can possibly be.

  • As a lighting designer, you have a lot on your plate: you need to come up with creative ideas, collaborate with other designers, and ensure that your lighting design is executed flawlessly. You also know that drafting a detailed and accurate light plot is critical to the success of any production. However, the process of creating a light plot can be time-consuming and requires a high level of attention to detail. By working with me, you can focus on other aspects of the production process and rest assured that your light plot will be in good hands. I will work closely with you to ensure that the lightplot accurately represents your vision, and provide you with timely updates throughout the drafting process.

  • Pre-visualization is a crucial aspect of lighting design in the entertainment industry. It involves creating a digital representation of a lighting design before it is executed in real life, allowing designers to experiment with different lighting schemes, color palettes, and effects in a virtual environment. This not only saves time and resources, but also enables designers to fine-tune their designs and collaborate more effectively with other members of the production team.

I have a pre-vis suite in my studio. Currently, I have access to Vision and Augment3d for Visualization and ETC EOS as a control surface.

  • Having an assistant can provide an extra set of eyes and ears, to catch additional details during the tech process. They can also help with last-minute changes and adjustments, ensuring that the show runs smoothly and seamlessly. Having a competent and reliable assistant can make a significant difference in the success of a production during technical rehearsals and previews.

That’s where I come in. As an experienced designer myself, I can help usher your vision into fruition. I am highly skilled in taking notes and updating plots and paperwork, but more importantly I have a keen eye for detail and the design sense to know where you’re going. I enjoy helping colleagues produce their best art.
